On a positive note

September 12, 2007

I’m kind of nauseated most of the time as this show approaches – standard stress stuff, nothing to compare with the bad old days, but still annoying. And I’m really too tired to write much. For some reason, though, this whole blogging thing makes me feel better in general. Weird.

So tonight, a list.

Ten Material Things That Make Me Happy

  1. My Columbo/Sherlock Holmes/Jeeves and Wooster DVD collection. The first two sets are continuing gifts from the guy who gave me the two-volume OED our first married Christmas together, to the complete mystification of his entire family and the intense satisfaction of mine.
  2. My collection of pre-logo Coach bags. The oldest is almost ten now… they are all different, all sleek, all classic, and all from the same source. Guess who.
  3. The Brother PC8500 sewing machine which radiates its perfection on…
  4. …my sewing table, an Ikea pinewood relic that is more stable than any other surface on the face of the earth and lives in…
  5. …my workroom. I thought after Nora was born it would be years and years before I had my own space again. O me of little faith.
  6. The blue JC Penney quilt that I bought on sale when we first got the house. It has been washed hundreds of times and is the security blanket of everyone in this household, including both dogs, both cats, and all three primates.
  7. Our two barrister-style bookcases.
  8. The great big four-poster bed that I never thought Brian would like, and when I showed it to him, he loved it. I have spent an enormous amount of time in this bed and plan on doing as much sleeping in it as possible for the rest of my life. Especially napping.
  9. A UT Austin sleep shirt from someone’s actual time at UT, which makes it almost twenty years old.
  10. This laptop.

Right? My mom got all pissed at me and sent me a nasty email for posting that “estranged” bit, but it was amazing how much better I felt after I did it (even considering the nasty email). Something about writing it down and putting it out there makes it less toxic, I think. Allows me to get it outside myself. Right. Me too.

  2. Me three.
