Our Peaceable Kingdom
I always thought I was a cat person; my companion and alter-ego for seventeen wonderful years was Ananda, the best and pissiest cat who ever ate an obnoxious roommate’s ankle (told you not to mess with her, Travis – still got the scars, I bet).
But then I saw Alice, and knew she was supposed to be with us. Then Chip, because Alice needed a companion; everyone needs someone around who speaks their language. And when Ananda left us, Jane and Lizzie joined the group. So here’s our menagerie, in living color and a cloud of dog and cat hair.
Alice: an old dog of infinite-resource-and-sagacity, and a truly gifted napper.
Jane: a puffy cat with a deep and abiding love for a beagle.
Chip: our big boy, with more leg than any dog needs.

Lizzie and Alice: a little friction over the sunny spot.

oh, sweetness. I miss my pets.
Alpha male? I suppose, but no one can make a dog lose bladder control like I can. It’s a talent I’m quite proud of.
